Mei Ho House Experiential Camp is now open for registration!
Mei Ho House Experiential Camp is based on three learning videos, "When the Lotus Blooms Again", created in collaboration with Chung Ying Theatre in 2021. It allows students to gain an in-depth understanding on the livelihoods and challenges of people in the 1950s to 1970s through "Process Drama" activities.

Event Introduction and Details
Post-war Hong Kong was in a state of devastation. During Christmas night in 1953, the Shek Kip Mei fire broke out and swallowed six villages. Residents lost their place and belongings within the night and resulted in being homeless. From homeless to the livelihood in resettlement building, they struggled on daily living and handling the relationships between neighborhoods. Based on this background, "Mei Ho House Hong Kong Spirit Learning Project" has collaborated with Chung Ying Theatre in 2021 and created three learning videos as teaching materials for teachers.
At the beginning of the school year, the programme has launched the "Mei Ho House Experiential Camp" that aims to gain students’ understanding on the livelihood and the struggles of people in the 1950s to 1970s through "Process Drama" activities. In addition, it helps students to reflect on ways to encounter difficulties in their future and to develop positive values and attitudes.
Mei Ho House Experiential Camp is separated into two parts
First part – Heritage of Mei Ho House Guided Tour
Introduction of the historical, architectural, cultural and social significance of Mei Ho House, the first and only remaining Mark I H-shaped resettlement block. Teachers and students will gain insights into the history of the public housing development in Hong Kong, the livelihood of the people during the 50s to 70s and listen to interesting stories from former residents of the resettlement estates.
Second part - "When the Lotus Blooms Again" Experiential Activities
Using the lesson plan and learning videos provided, students are able to acknowledge the difficulties of fire victims who suffered from Shek Kip Mei fire, and understand the social culture and situations during the 50s and 70s. Through "Process Drama" interactive activities, students are encouraged to put themselves into certain situations from the learning videos. They will be able to reflect on the neighborhood relationships, moral standards, and family responsibilities.
